This special report is for wine lovers of all stripes, providing insightful tips from renowned wine critic James Suckling, as well as offering a glimpse of two famous wine-growing regions: Chianti and Napa Valley.

Napa Valley, California is an area of outstanding natural beauty with an enviable Mediterranean climate and an impressive wine growing heritage.

A mere 30 miles long and a few miles wide, Napa Valley supplies four per cent of all Californian wines. Despite its size, it produces a range of internationally acclaimed bottles. Apart from wineries, there are also numerous award-winning restaurants, including chef Thomas Keller’s French Laundry and his more casual abode, Adden- dum, as well as innovative Japanese at Iron Chef Maharu Morimoto’s Morimoto Napa.
With fine dining and worldclass wineries in such close proximity to one another, B Cellars finds the perfect harmony at their estate in Oakville. Co-founders Duffy Keys and Jim Borsack both come from extensive hospitality backgrounds. Together with master winemaker Kirk Venge, they’ve been delighting visitors with unique experiences that marry food and wine since opening in 2003. Previously in Calistoga, their new estate boasts tasting rooms looking out onto vistas of the Vaca Mountains.
In the kitchen, chef de cuisine Brian Micheal Green and his team conjure up gourmet tasting menus complemented with wines from the vineyard. B Cellar aims to keep everything local – fresh produce is grown in their garden and eggs come from their hen house. Here, the old adage “White wine with fish; red wine with meat” no longer stands because of the variety of wine styles prevalent in modern winemaking. An oaky New World Chardonnay can have more body than lighter reds such as Pinot Noir or Italian Merlots. Breaking away with tradition is just the beginning, as every experience here is unique and eye-opening.

3 B Cellars Wines:
Blend 23 [2011] is a characterful blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon
Blanc and Viognier. A clean, bright wine reminiscent of Chablis with
a kick of grapefruit and tropical notes, fresh flowers and honeysuckle.
Perfect with tomato based dishes and pasta because of the acidity of
the tomato sauce.
Blend 24 [2009] finds its inspiration from the classic Chiantis. The
Sangiovese offering a delicate strawberry perfume. The Cabernet
Sauvignon offers black cherry notes. An exciting wine to cellar if you
like Super-Tuscan style reds.

Blend 25 [2009] is a lush blend with aromatics of blue fruit, espresso
roast, with hints of freshly cracked black pepper. The palate is laden
with flavours of huckleberry jam, cherry cola, and exotic spice box. It
will cellar well over the next 8-10 years. Perfect with slow cooked,
braised meats such as pork belly.
